Market exploration enters decisive phase
Munich, October 5, 2005 - telegate, Europe’s leading provider of directory services, has taken an important step forward in establishing a position on the Swiss DA market. With the takeover over the Switzerland-based Xentel AG, telegate has secured the “golden number” 1818 and thus started preparing a possible market entry in Switzerland. The contractual parties have agreed to keep further details confidential.
“Among the main requirements for a successful market entry is a call number that is easy for consumers to remember,“ remarked Dr. Andreas Albath, CEO of telegate AG. “This pivotal element has been secured with the purchase of Xentel AG and thus points the way for further European expansion of telegate,“ Albath continued.
The telephone information market in Switzerland is to be opened up to competition on 1 January 2007, when the legacy DA code “111” will be withdrawn and only the new “18xy” DA codes will remain accessible. With an estimated market value of around EUR 70 million, Switzerland is among the most attractive European DA markets yet to be deregulated. The market entry evaluation for Switzerland will be finalized within the next six month. Therewith – in case of positive decision – launch activities could be started timely and telegate secures optimal conditions for the Company´s European expansion.
