Regulation authority assigns directory inquiry numbers
Munich, June 15, 2005 - Another milestone in the liberalization of the French directory services inquiry market has been reached. By means of a lottery procedure, the ARCEP regulatory authority (formerly ART) has assigned new directory inquiry numbers. telegate has chosen its desired number 118 555. The market opening is scheduled for November 2, 2005.
"The assignment of the new inquiry numbers in France is a decisive step for telegate on its path toward European expansion", Dr. Andreas Albath, Chief Executive Officer of telegate AG, commented. Since the beginning of the year, telegate has been making extensive preparations for its market entry in France. A strong regional management team is planning and organizing the entry into operations locally. "We have been very well prepared", Albath continued, "together with market experts we developed a list of about 10 desired directory inquiry numbers with tailored marketing ideas. The 118 555 was one of the top favorites.
In France, 27 participants took part in the lottery procedure. With a market volume of currently 270 million euros annually, the French directory services inquiry market is regarded as one of the most attractive in Europe. From November 2, 2005 on, alternative directory service inquiry providers will be able to offer their services under the new six digit 118 telephone numbers. In April 2006 the current monopoly telephone number "12" of France Telecom will then be deactivated for good.
